This photographic study entails Chile and the western parts of Argentina, Bolivia and Peru.  So why not just call it the Andes?
This is because I will be using that word for the mountains themselves, while this study tries to encompass the flora, fauna
and social aspects of the area, as well as taking in everything out to the Pacific Coast.  The region involved is approximated
in the Google Earth image below.
